November 24, 2006
by Christine Hall

Many builders are working locally to build homes that will benefit worthy causes.

• All-Star Miracle Home. Meritage Homes partnered with Houston athletes such as Luther Head, Tracy McGrady and Mary Lou Retton to design the All-Star Miracle Home in Sienna Plantation.

The 4,100-square-foot, two-story home is fully furnished and landscaped and located in the Spice Ridge neighborhood.

The community fundraiser is benefiting the Children's Miracle Network of the Greater Houston area and the Houston Rocket's Clutch City Foundation.

To date, more than 140 business have come together to donate time, materials and labor to the program. Approximately $250,000 has been raised so far.

The home, as well as runner-up prizes, will be given away on Feb. 23. The deadline to purchase $100 entries is Feb. 13, but buying earlier entries will give participants a chance to win a 2007 Toyota Camry LE courtesy of Houston-area Toyota dealers.

Seven prizes will be awarded including a $10,000 shopping spree, a Houston Rockets Road Trip and jewelry donated by Richard and Jeanne Filip and RE/MAX of Texas.

• GHBA Benefit Home. The Greater Houston Builder's Association got together with developer Land Tejas to build two homes to benefit the Alzheimer's Association and Texas Children's Hospital.

Kimball Hill Homes' 2,437-square-foot home in Westheimer Lakes includes hardwood floors, specially painted accent walls, plantation shutters on select windows and a landscape package. Priced at $221,990, the home features upgraded cabinets and countertops, a security system and total wiring.

Pioneer Homes built in Park Lakes. Priced at $173,990, the home includes upgraded granite countertops complete with an under-the-counter sink, upgraded carpet, upgraded fir front door and full sod in the yard.

• HomeAid Houston. Wellsprings Inc. approached HomeAid Houston to help them complete the residential portion of its Wellspring Village.

Builder captains include David Weekley Homes and Tilson Home Corp.

The six homes have four bedrooms and four bathrooms for eight women to share, as well as a common living and dining area, kitchen, laundry facility and study.

• KTRH DreamHome. The home is presented by AXA Financial Advisors and Chubb Group of Insurance Cos. and benefits the Arbor School.

Kirkpatrick Design designed and Black Diamond Builders built the $1.9 million, 5,272-square-foot home in Hunters Creek Village. It features tankless water heaters, an electricity usage monitor and a robotic lawn mower, vacuum and mop.
